The floating motion of this sculpture is one of my favorites. The dark wave-like form moves through a variety of complex patterns as the motion assembly rotates. At times the wave form hovers at rest for a few moments, centered in its carrying wheels, then it breaks out and begins a new set of patterns.

My daughters Amy and Karen helped in the naming of this piece. At the first family viewing of my new work, I pumped them for name ideas. Karen said that it reminded her of waves in the ocean and then Amy said "Castaway" and we all knew it was right.

About Quicktime Video

The video above is a 30 second QuickTime movie. It shows part of one full cycle of the motion but not all the patterns that occur within a cycle. Most of the wood colors were lost in the conversion to this very compressed web video.

This is a smoother, more accurate representation of the motion of the sculpture than the gif animation. Unfortunately it also takes somewhat longer (about one to two minutes at 56k) to download and requires the most recent version of Apples Quicktime Plugin.
